DRUKNROLL (for HeavyMusic.ru) 2021

Our guest is the Saratov group Druknroll again, and now let’s find out what’s new with the guys during this time.

– Tell us about the news in the group (maybe something happened, something changed).

Denis: Hello! It’s happening. We are working on a new album and everything is moving along well.
Oleg: We are actively working on new material. We continue to actively experiment with different genres and I think this will pleasantly surprise our fans!

– Did quarantine somehow affect your work, or did you give great concerts online?

Denis: Quarantine? It seems like it was so long ago. Personally, I don’t even remember it.
Oleg: During quarantine, each of us concentrated on our roles. We had more time to think about the material, arrangements and concept.
Andrey: Fu…’N’Druk’N’Karanti’N’Roll!!!

– What do you think about the political riots over Navalny and do you follow politics in the country in general (do you go to the polls, watch the news)?

Andrey: Fu…’N’Druk’N’Politic’N’Roll!!! The DRUKNROLL group is outside of politics, although the opinion of each member of the group probably differs from the opinion of the group!

– Have you experimented with music lately?

Oleg: Yes, and you will hear this in the new material. For us, in a creative sense, this was a very productive time.

Andrey: One of the recent experiments was working with drums, now it will be difficult to distinguish live drums from electronic ones!

– Where can we see and hear you in the near future? Are there any concerts planned?

Oleg: There are no concerts planned in the current conditions.

– Would you like to perform at some open-airs or nature festivals in the summer?

Denis: I would really like to. This is a great opportunity to introduce the public to us, and for us to test our own skills.

– Do people often ask to take a photo with you or give you an autograph?

Denis: When people find out during a conversation that I play in a band, they ask for a CD or a link to my work.
Oleg: No. I think that people like our music, and in real life we are just a few grown-up, not very handsome men.
Andrey: Yes, as the classic said, we are widely known in narrow circles!

– Do you pay attention to music every day (pick up your instrument, sing) or are there absolutely non-musical days?

Denis: Unfortunately, I don’t always get to spend time with the guitar, but I don’t fall below a certain level and quickly return to my dashing form, as soon as I spend a couple of evenings at the instrument.
Oleg: We have been doing this for over 20 years and we don’t have to practice every day. Only maybe warm up before recording!
Andrey: Yes, you have to practice constantly, then there will be progress!

– Are you friends in a band in real life?

Andrey: Probably not, we were brought together by music, but we each have our own interests!

– Do you collect anything?

Denis: I have a simple type of collecting – it’s a natural option for collecting my own used picks. I’ve already accumulated a lot of them. And no, I don’t lose them! 🙂
Oleg: I collect books on the occult.

– Do you follow fashionable new music releases? (style doesn’t matter)

Oleg: Of course. After all, in addition to the band, I’m a sound engineer and it’s important for me to understand the current sound.
Denis: I periodically come across new releases. I think that being aware of the developments in the music industry is a good way to refresh your own views and thoughts.
Andrey: Yes, but now there is so much musical information that it’s already difficult to choose something worthwhile from the sandwich!

– Nowadays, many people make videos on TikTok, and are you there? And how do you feel about it?

Denis: Oh, no. I hope that circumstances won’t force me to appear there.
Oleg: We’re a bit old for that.
Andrey: Yes, but we can always shake off the old days and let’s not make plans for the future yet!

– Do you think that musical education helps or hinders?

Denis: I’ll answer with a legendary phrase: It’s better to have and need than to need and not have.
Oleg: It definitely helps. I can speak for myself.
Andrey: Of course, without education, I wouldn’t play the guitar, the keys, and many other instruments (even on nerves)!)))

– It is believed that every rock musician should have tattoos (do you agree with this or not?), but do all of your team members have them? And who has the most?

Denis: I’m not sure that tattoos are now directly related to media exposure, non-standardism and belonging to the musical culture, since now absolutely ordinary people can have tattoos.
I don’t have tattoos, but I have nothing against them either 🙂
Oleg: Nobody owes anyone anything, tattoos are more of a tribute to belonging to a subculture. But I think that individuality is more important. I have quite a lot of tattoos. But I don’t think that everyone should be like that.
Andrey: Of course, Oleg will beat us all in this matter! The main thing here is that they are not prison ones, and the rest is nonsense!

– Do your performances include show elements? (You appear in some spectacular way, lie on the floor, pour water over yourself, turn on a smoke bomb).

Andrey: If we do live performances, then it will be a show, of course! And if we focus on the legendary Alice Cooper, then success will come immediately!

– Do you communicate with the audience between songs? Do you like to talk on stage?

Andrey: Yes, talking to the audience and singing is a great element of the show!

– Now in the music industry everything has become simpler, songs are recorded at home, there are a lot of different recording programs. And how are things with you? Where do you record? Is it a long and expensive process or not?

Denis: I record at home. The recording conditions are very comfortable. I receive the material, create a solo and send it to the guys. I am very grateful to them for the fact that I think I am the least loaded member of the band.
Oleg: We record at the LIve Line studio in Saratov. We have already recorded several of our albums this way. For us, this is quite an expensive process, both emotionally and financially. But the result is worth it!

– Tell us about your taste preferences: what do you like to eat?

Denis: I really like spicy food and cold drinks.
Oleg: Pizza with pineapples.
Andrey: Meat! Give me some meat!

– Do you have any favorite holidays? Any special dates?

Oleg: Walpurgis Night!
Andrey: Navy Day!

– Do you have any bad habits? Do they bother you?

Andrey: I quit smoking about 10 years ago – I’m very happy!

– Do you play sports? What’s your favorite?

Denis: I keep myself in shape and wish everyone to be healthy and fit! I prefer physical exercise in the gym.
Oleg: Yes, we all love to pump up!

– What are your favorite quotes that you go through life with?

Denis: I really like the quote by Philip H Anselmo “Don’t underestimate the guy, but if you do, you’re a ***** [damn] bad person. Because that guy is me.”

Oleg: Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. There is no god but man.
Andrey: Fu…’N’Druk’N’Rock’N’Roll!!!

WE WISH THE MUSICIANS GOOD LUCK AND SEE YOU SOON AT THE CONCERTS!
