DRUKNROLL (for TSM) 2015

How did you become involved in this crazy world of music?
It all began when I was a child. I had a lot of different musical instruments which were presented me by my father, such as two acoustic guitars, a bass guitar, a balalaika, a mandolin, a piano, a harmonica, a xylophone, an accordion and a triangle. I had to practice playing all of them. At the same time with me finishing my musical school on piano there were appearing new musical albums of my favoutite bands such as ‘Muster Of Puppets’ of Metallica, ‘Russian Roullette’ and ‘Metal Heart’ of Accept, ‘Holy Diver’ of Dio. I tried to play songs of them and improved my musical skills. I started to play metal at school when I gathered my own musical group, we had been playing music for about 2 years. After a 10-year pause I understood that I wanted to start playing music again, so that I decided to make a solo project of another format than it had been before. At that time my friend Doc and I started to make up our own recording studio for expressing our musical ideas. We have been working on it for 10 years and we are very happy to do this.
Who are your inspirations and what was the inspiration behind the album?
My foremost insipirators are my wife Elena, daughter Maria, father, mother, brother and lots of my friends, who like classical hard rock and like listening to bands such as Metallica, UDO, Helloween, Ozzy Osbourne, etc. Speaking about the musical influence on me, I am inspired by new tendencies of modern metal, I enjoy mixing of styles, different instruments and samples.  I am so impressed by new albums of rock groups such as ‘Metamorphosis’ (2011) and ‘Through Our Darkest Days’ (2013) of Mercenary, ‘The Monster Within” of Degradead.

Could you tell our readers about the band and what makes you different from other artists?
Band Druknroll was formed in 2006 in Saratov (Russia) and was a solo project of musician Druknroll. All instrument parties were recorded by Druknroll, with Alexander (vocal) and Peter (drums) from Saratov band ‘The Dark Lord’. Knip joined the group later. He is a great guitarist and master of special effects. We had been working on the first full album for 4 years and it was released in 2010 by the Moscow label NewRock. It was named ‘Brownian Motion’. It was an experiment, because Druknroll hadn’t recorded music before. In 2012 Druknroll concluded a contract with a MetalScrapRecords label and after that our two new albums were released (‘On The Knife Blade’(2012) and ‘Boiling Point’ (2014)). Some videos were recorded for a few years, such as ‘On The Knife Blade’, ‘Defense of Sevastopol’ and ‘Samurai’. Some songs were released on compilation albums ‘Breakthrough’, ‘SIM’, ‘W.A.R.G.’, ‘Planeta Metal presents: Neurasthenia and the Best Russian Metal Bands!’,’Metal Scrap Records XX Years Anniversary’ and others. We don’t have a special music style, but we like to mix guitar riffs, electronics, acoustics, that is the reason why we are different from other bands.

Tell me about the album?
A new EP ‘The Loop Of World Creation’ was released by the label MetalScrapRecords in the summer of 2015. The tracklist is ‘The Loop Of World Creation’, ‘Below’ and ‘Minus’ (In Flames cover). We made a video for a song ‘Below’. The EP is very conceptual. The main philosophic idea is about the meaning of life and you can see it in all the tracks including the cover. We decided to release this EP accidentally. The cover was recorded a few years ago, but it wasn’t released at that time because it was different by its format for including in the previous albums. We were working on the full album and decided to release these 3 songs as an EP. The full  album is to be released in 2016.

Where was it recorded who produced it and how long did the process take?
The album ‘The Loop Of World Creation’ was recorded in our own studio MetalHearts. As I said before, we were creating new material for our full-format album and took tracks that had been already finished by that time. Knip had been organizing the record. He is not only our band member, but also a studio manager. It takes about 2 or 3 months for us to record a song. We don’t make all the material at a heat, but we make one song until it is finished (when all the instruments, drums and vocal are written fully). I can’t be working on a few songs at the same time, so that during 2 years we can record about 10 songs for a full album. Knip does the mixing and mastering.

What’s in store for the future?
The main aim for the future is to finish and release our new full album in 2016. It is almost done for about 75 percent. We have the idea to make a new video in the autumn of 2015 for supporting of this album. Moreover, at the end of 2015 one of the new tracks is to be in a compilation album of MetalScrapRecords. As you know, ‘Druknroll’ doesn’t give any concerts, but we can change our plans at any time and go on a tour (we have a lot of invitations). If everything is alright we are going to start making the next full album by the end of this year. I enjoy the process of writing and recording songs much more than working on the finished material. Listen to metal!
