ts DRUKNROLL celebrate their fifth studio anniversary, which is called “Unbalanced” and is similar to prog, death, thrash, groove and even traditional heavy metal. From now on, DRUKNROLL sing in English, record only in categorically pretentious quality, but still chop up tasty, aggressive and surgically sophisticated metal. Right now, the evil fanatics who recorded “Unbalanced” are ready to leave their unholy affairs for 5 minutes to answer my blitz questions. Let’s begin!
– Greetings, Druknroll! Music critics around the world are ready to crown your newest disc: originality – 10, memorability – 10 – that’s strong! What do you think, did you manage to kick everyone’s ass with “Unbalanced”?
Druknroll: We’ll probably pepper it, but we’ll seriously beat you if we release a new album in Chinese, and Ozzy will be our opening act!
– John Conant calls Druknroll a very Russian band in his review, what do you think is your national flavor?
Druknroll: Of course, it’s impossible to get rid of Tambov mugs and Ryazan accent!
– If you use only three words, then “Unbalanced” is…?
Druknroll: Rolim Trolim Druknroll! And if in one word, then you already know it: FUCK`N`ROCK`N`DRUK`N`ROLL!
– “Unbalanced” is designed to unbalance the listener’s brain or, on the contrary, help him find the necessary balance?
Druknroll: Most likely the latter. I want to point the listener in the right direction, and the best way to do this is with the words from one song from this album, though in English (it’s up to you to translate it for yourself): The philosophy of life – reproduction and kaif!!!
– Why is it worth listening to Druknroll at all and which album is best to start with?
Horror: Of course, you need to start with “Unbalanced” to feel the full horror of our consciousness, and you need to listen to everything to understand how we got to this point. How long and sometimes difficult this path was.
– And what do you play anyway: progressive, death, heavy or good old rock and roll?
Druknroll: It’s like coffee, some people like it black, but we also like to add sugar, cream, cognac, and for the sake of an experiment we can add compote, beer and tea.
– I heard that the guitarist is into covers, is this the secret of the solos being so fiery?
Denis: Perhaps, yes, but covers take too much time and who knows, if I spent more time writing solos, what would have come out of it all? In any case, I tried to bring a bit of fire to each solo and “roast the listener” properly.
– Your vocals now sound like they’re from a hellish well: the overdubs and transitions from extreme singing to clean are impressive! Share the secret recipe for such a sound?
Horror: The real secret weapon is our sound engineer Alex Knip, he makes this hellish collective image of my vocals, and the voice is really mine, and I sing like that. Let’s say that people have a “crush” of personality, and I have a “crush” of voices)). That’s the whole secret.
– What bands’ albums did you listen to when you were recording your fifth disc and how did they influence you?
Denis: During the recording of the disc, I was inspired by the album “Conformicide” by the band Havok and, in particular, by the killer solos of their guitarist named Reece Scruggs. Also, the composition of my solos was greatly influenced by the solos of Brandon Ellis from The Black Dahlia Mudrer with their album “Nightbringers”.
Horror: During this time, I have listened to a lot of music of different styles and directions. I always try to rely not on the composition or the artist itself, but, so to speak, on the aftertaste of what I heard, on the sensations of emotions!
– What are your immediate plans and your final words to potential listeners?
Druknroll: Work on
new material is in full swing (only Chinese is going with difficulty), by the end of the year we want to release an EP of three new songs and shoot a new video! Rolling! Rolling! Druknroll!
