Druknroll – Brownian Movement (2010)
Lesbians, bikers and a screaming man in Saratov
A band from Saratov with a strange name DRUKNROLL, playing hard’n’heavy. If you have any associations connected with this sentence, do not forget them and do not discard them. Almost everything is correct.
I admit that I never intentionally want to separate domestic performers from the world metal scene. And if you turn your attention to newer styles, you never want to remember our “anti-rock” past. Bands are different, like everywhere, good or bad, high-quality and not so much, but none of them shines with some special feature, because of which you will never listen to their music again. Not paying attention to the name DRUKNROLL, let’s try to find something encouraging in their music. In places, good melodies, keyboard arrangements, alarming but not disgusting lyrics… A funny cover of DIO with a local choir, Paganini’s arrangement, even the quality of the recording… But there is one thing. Do you like how they yell but don’t sing? Here is the local vocalist yelling “at the top of his lungs”, trying. Like a tipsy guy at a “glass party”. It’s terrible. At first I thought it was a joke, like TIME OUT. The cover of DIO “This Is Your Life” prompted me to think so. Accompanied by a piano, a guy defiantly yells, and then a child and a choir sing along, but it turned out that there is nothing like that here. I was convinced of this after watching the DVD with three videos attached to the album. Including the video for the DIO cover, everything is serious there, you could say, a kind of anthem to the biker movement. A story about some motorcyclist who got hit by a car, and his girlfriend jumped from the roof. A great plot and corresponding artistic realization. Another video that impressed me, “White Walls”. About a mental hospital, in which a doctor got drunk and tortured two nurses. Girls with impressive forms first do lesbian (in clothes!), and then knock this doctor out with hammers. Of course, it’s nice that in Saratov there is some semblance of a metal movement, but it’s sad that it happens at such a low level. It seems not to be in the Arctic Circle, a pleasant city on the Volga. The lag is terrible.
