Formed in 2006 by Andrey “Druknroll” (guitars, bass, keys, and drum programming), Druknroll is a Russian metal band that I have had the pleasure of covering in the past (link). The recently-released “Unbalanced” is the fifth full-length album from this dark & dangerous group that is currently fronted by Alexander “Horror” Tolgaev (Svartstorm). Having started out in life as a solo project, Druknroll’s one of a kind sound combines elements of hard & heavy rock, progressive metal, melodic thrash metal, death metal, and modern metal. Now in it’s twelfth year of existence (and every-bit as different as their name implies!), this edgy-outfit has a lot to offer to modern metal fans and heavy death thrashers.

Este e um album diffcil de definir. A editora ucraniana traz-nos о quinto album da banda russa de thrash metal dinamico – e por dinamico dizemos que a banda vai a todas desde о gotico sinfonico ate ao death metal, sendo о thrash о genera que mais se mantem ao longo destas dez faixas. Como nao conhecfamos nada sobre a banda, voltamo-nos obviamente para о apoio nestes casos e no Metal Archives, tfnhamos a indicagao de que se tratava de hard’n heavy melodico. Bern… mais confuso ficamos. Apesar da amplitude grande da sua sonoridade, e inegavel que a banda consegue apresentar uma sonoridade muito propria e que esta consegue er eficaz ao dar-nos melodia e agressividade em, quase sempre, iguais medidas, sendo que agressividade tern tendencia a sobrepor-se. О unico problema que temos e que a diferenga de alguns temas (сото “It’s Not My Way”) faz-nos pensar que estamos a ouvir uma compilagao em vez de um album de uma unica banda.

El quinto álbum de estudio de DRUKNROLL Progressive Melodic Thrash / Death Metal desde Rusia ha visto la luz a principios de abril a través de METAL SCRAP RECORDS.
Composiciones a alta velocidad con aire sinfónico, melódico y progresivo. La batería y el bajo son una apisonadora, mientras que las guitarras son cortantes a la vez que aplastantes y una voz agresiva y desgarrada. Este álbum consta de unas composiciones muy dinámicas y progresivas, con unos solos de guitarra muy trabajados.
Esta banda tiene en su haber cinco largas duraciones y dos Ep´s desde que se formaran en 2006, ahora mismo los componentes son, su alma mater Druknroll a la guitarra, bajo, teclado y batería programada, Horror a las voces, knip a la guitarra, efectos y batería programada y Denys Malyuga a la guitarra solista.
El álbum que nos ocupa de llama “Unbalanced” y con una duración de cuarenta y ocho minutos y diez canciones, es una buena excusa para indagar en esta fusión de estilos, que con un muy buen sonido te adentra en su mundo melódico y progresivo con una variedad de riffs asombrosa, unos solos de guitarra dignos, para aquellos que les gusta desmerecer el trabajo de los demás, aquí no hay por donde meter mano, así que toca joderse y alabar a estos pedazo de músicos, las composiciones están muy curradas, crean unos pasajes atmosféricos tipo sinfónico que te hacen levitar, buen juego de voces rasgada con gutural y por momentos voz limpia.
Muy recomendable para todo aquel que les guste la buena música, otra cosa es que te lo compres, pero la escucha merece la pena, no apto para los trves ni los excesivamente modernillos ya que, ¡ellos son los que saben y escuchan lo mejor! aunque sea una basura.

DRUKNROLL is kind of a tough band to pin down. Here’s what we know: they love combining and mashing up all sorts of different metal styles with a drunken vigor, and they’re super duper Russian. Their latest full length, “Unbalanced,” is no different. A ferocious mashup of countless styles of metal: it thrashes, it djents, it slams, it grooves, it has softer moments, and it has PLENTY of heavy moments. A constant feeling of organized chaos and total mayhem carry the vibe of the album, and all things considered, it works really well. The heavy moments will have you head banging, the catchy moments will grab your attention, and it’s all topped off with solid production value and crushing vocal work from vocalist Horror. It begins at an unrelenting pace with the epic and soaring track “Hundred,” and doesn’t slow down through the entire album.
“Hundred” is in fact one of my favorite tracks of the year so far, and does an excellent job of encapsulating what the album is about. It begins with a thrashy and proggy guitar line that carries into a verse layered with brutal death metal vocals, before transitioning into a clean vocal dominant chorus, all while maintaining the proggy nature of the instruments playing in the background. It’s, generally speaking, one of the softer songs on the album, which is awesome. They don’t give you their heaviest stuff right out the gate. This song also makes FANTASTIC use of piano, perfectly added, their talent as musicians on full display.
Track 2 “Unbalanced” takes a much more aggressive and heavy note, we get a lot more of a djent feel here. Also the bridge guitar solo is wicked cool. Track 3 is the aptly titled “Bad Math,” heavy but also proggy, and it does vaguely remind me of math rock bands. Whether that was intentional with the title? Who knows. But it’s a killer track, 3 songs deep and the album is already stuffed to the brim with variety. This number also features a killer guitar solo.
The album doesn’t really let up. With the exception of track 4 “It’s Not My Way” which is a softer track, relatively speaking, it’s a constant barrage of chaotic and pounding metal. Other choice tracks for me include the brutal and wicked “Philosphy of Life” with it’s quick and dark doom/death metal riffs, “Mirror” with it’s epic droning of chunking djent-esque riffs, and closer “Dark Matter” which perfectly sums up the chaotic and prog nature of the album.
“Mirror” in particular is a favorite, although I am having a hard time choosing one track that stands out above the rest (a true sign of excellence). The droning and dark nature of the song is absolutely captivating, with a pounding and chunky feel that I absolutely LOVE. It reminds me of some bastard combination of DARK TRANQUILITY, IN FLAMES, and BLIND GUARDIAN. But that’s pretty specific, so take it with a grain of salt. The point is: it’s fucked up. In a GREAT way.
All said and done, if you’re open in minded and in the mood for something fresh, give this album a listen. It may not be what you’re expecting, but you’re definitely going to love it.

Kapela DRUKNROLL pochadza z ruskeho mesta Saratov a urcite uz nepatri k novacikom na metalo-vej scene. Od svojho vzniku v roku 2006 vydali vratane novinky uz pat plnohodnotnych albumov a dve minicka. Tvorbu do roku 2015 na-hravali vyhradne v ruskom jazyku, ale od svojho stvrteho albumu „In the Game” z roku 2016 sa preorien-tovali na anglictinu, ktorej zatial ostavaju verni do sucasnej doby. Aktualnu novinku, piaty studiovy album „Unbalanced”, tvori desat skladieb s celkovym casom mierne prekracujucim % hodiny. Hudobna produkcia na tomto albume velmi vyrazne preburava mantinely sty-lu heavy metal, nakolko tu cleno-via DRUKNROLL vyuzivaju a miesa-ju rozne metalove styly a robia tak nahravku velmi modernou a velmi pestrou. V podstate sa uz ani neda povedat, ze sa jedna o heavy metal, nakolko tu prevladaju nekompro-misne a razantne groovy a thrash vplyvy, ktore casto zabrdnu dokonca i do death metalovych vod a to nielen vokalom, ale i hudbou. Niektore skladby vsak zostavaju vo vodach melodickeho heavy metalu, ktory je prikrasleny lubozvucnym zenskym spevom. Mozno, ze niektori z vas budu trocha zmateni z predoslych riadkov, ale verte, funguje to. Pestrost, to je to prave, na co vsadili tito ruski hudobnici. DRUKNROLL „Unbalanced11 (Metal Scrap)

Aus der Ukraine erreicht uns eine Death/Thrash Metal-Band mit dem etwas irrefuhrenden Namen DRUKNROLL. Der Bandname weist wohl auf die alltagstauglichen Themen in den Texten der Band hin. Die Stiicke wirken etwas roh und unbelassen. Der leicht gruntige Gesang tut sein Ubriges. „Unbalanced” zeichnet sich durch eine etwas steril wirkende Produktion aus; es wirkt leicht holzern, wenn man sich mit einem solchen, vielleicht auch etwas schiefen Vergleich behelfen mochte. DRUKNROLL fiigen dem Death/Thrash noch Keyboards hinzu. In .It’s Not My Way’ gesellt sich Frauengesang zum eigentlich doch recht straighten Metal. Sagt einem noch der Name Deadhead etwas? Okay, das ist ein bisschen zynisch jetzt, weil die Niederlander letztes Jahr ein neues Album veroffentlichten. DRUKNROLL kniipfen etwas, wohl eher unbewusst, an den Thrash Metal von Deadhead an. Ab und zu tendieren DRUKNROLL auch mehr zu Death Metal-Grunts, wie in .Eternal Confrontation’. Schlecht ist das Album nicht unbedingt, aber es fehlt noch etwas der letzte Schliff. Zuweilen hat es auch den Anschein, als ob DRUKNROLL zu viel auf einmal wollen: extreme Songs schreiben, dann wiederum progressive Elemente einflieBen lassen, symphonische Versatzstiicke integrieren. Auf dem nachsten Album ware vielleicht etwas Zuspitzung gut. (AP)

Quando il mio capo redattore mi ha assegnato questi DRUNKROLL, e ho scorso la loro biografia mi si è accesa la luce, TRASH / DEATH / SIMPHONIC / PROGRESSIVE / ALTERNATIVE /MELODIC sono gli appellativi che hanno dato loro stessi alla proposta musicale che ci presentano…. poteva essere il caos o qualcosa di geniale, poteva essere un grande album oppure un flop, e visto che da vecchio metallaro, quale sono, amo le cose complicate (musicalmente parlando, ovvio) mi son messo all’ascolto di questo Album con l’entusiasmo di un ragazzino impaziente di scoprire cose nuove. Ebbene, devo dire che UNBALANCED (questo il titolo dell’album) è un disco difficile da catalogare, tanti sono gli elementi che lo compongono. Composizioni veloci dalle atmosfere sinfoniche e Progressive lasciano posto ad attacchi all’arma bianca maligni e dannatamente pesanti con la sezione ritmica che passa da essere un rullo compressore a dettare tempi più pacati e che vengono supportate da ottimi riff di chitarra, che oltretutto cesellano solos impeccabili e dall’elevato tasso tecnico, momenti estremamente pesanti fanno da contraltare a parti riflessive ed affascinanti… vocals malvage contrapposte a cori ed a parti orecchiabili (quasi rock ) in un continuo mutare d’atmosfera spiazzano l’ascoltatore trasportandolo in una dimensione dove tutto muta ad una velocità pazzesca. L’attacco sonoro parte con “Hundred “ che apre con un riff quasi epico per poi trasformarsi in un susseguirsi di atmosfere, con brutali voci death metal, prima di passare a un coro pulito e dominante, pur mantenendo tutta la violenza musicale, parti di tastiera si intervallano ad accelerazioni brucianti rendendo questo brano il manifesto ideale di tutto l’album. Unbalanced” e “Bad Math” sono molto più aggressive e pesanti, qui troviamo molto più trash metal, con il vocalist Horror che passa dal growling più nero a cleaning vocals efficaci e perfettamente consone al contesto, fatto di riff Killer e da atmosfere malate e Malvage. It’s Not My Way”, è una traccia più morbida che parte con un arpeggio ed un andamento progressive per poi crescere di intensità con cori e parti accelerate che lo rendono vario ed estremamente affascinante. Ottimi i solos di chitarra, quasi Rock, che mostrano un gran gusto del chitarrista Denys Malyuga. “Philosphy of Life” e “On the Hook“ sono brutali e malvage con riff doom metal veloci ed atmosfere darkeggianti, i continui cambi di tempo riportano alla mente gruppi come Watchtower per le articolazioni musicali ed i Mekong Delta per le atmosfere veramente oscure e sinfoniche. “Eternal Confrontation“ e “The Heroes of the War“ sono brani, che pur avendo ben impresso il l marchio di fabbrica dei Drunkroll, devono molto all’Epic Metal, con il loro incedere cadenzato e salmodiante, mentre “Mirror“ è oscura ed assolutamente accattivante, con sensazioni pungenti ed accelerazioni brucianti che la rendono letale. Si Chiude con “Dark Matter” che riassume perfettamente la natura camaleontica e progressiva dell’album, una strumentale che cambia forma continuamente facendo un’ipotetico riassunto dell’intero lavoro. Altamente raccomandato per tutti coloro che amano la musica potente ed hanno una mentalità aperta. Potrebbe non essere quello che ti aspetti, ma lo apprezzerai sicuramente, difatti i DRUKNROLL hanno confezionato un lavoro vario, ben suonato e ben prodotto, che pur con molteplici influenze riesce a non essere mai troppo caotico ed avere una propria identità… compito tutt’altro che facile.

Благодаря «открытому» подбору групп на #Volga_Metal_Compilation Vol.2, мне довелось познакомиться с несколькими ранее неведомыми для меня командами. И самой яркой, среди прочих, пожалуй, могу назвать DRUKNROLL из Саратова. Эти парни стали для меня настоящим открытием!
Если бы кто-либо спросил меня о том, какие ассоциации вызывает у меня свежайший альбом DRUKNROLL, «Unbalanced», то я не раздумывая назвал бы «Футуристический бронепоезд, несущийся на максимальной скорости». Уверенно можно сказать, что такой «Махине», вопреки названию альбома, стоило бы быть как раз таки максимально-сбалансированной. И именно таким и является альбом «Unbalanced». Скоростной Modern Metal с серьёзными прогрессивными элементами и вкраплениями Индастриала создают гнетущую атмосферу постапокалиптической реальности, в которой уже нет места мелким суетам сегодняшнего Хомо-Сапиенса. Главное здесь – Выжить!
Сам альбом здесь представлен лишь частично и «добит» более ранними, мощнейшими хитами. Встречайте Драк-н-ролльшиков из Саратова!

Страшные саратовские экспериментаторы снова вышли на тропу войны, и на этот раз не с синглом или миником, а с настоящим увесистым полноформатом. Ребята продолжают попытки покорить придирчивых западных слушателей, в связи с чем не только по-прежнему поют на английском, но и добавили себе какой-то особой универсальности. Лейбл утверждает, что “Unbalanced” гарантированно дестабилизирует и разбалансирует даже самый устойчивый разум своей дикой смесью симфо, прога, дэта, трэша, грува, альтернативы и болезненных, въедливых мелодий, а для убедительности проводит параллели с Children Of Bodom, Soilwork, Mercenary, Degradead, Dark Tranquillity и In Flames. Открывающая пластинку “Hundred” атакует барабанные перепонки в лучших традициях Soilwork и прочих мелодичных шведов, чистоголосые припевы в ней шикарны, атмосферные куски эмоциональны, а мощный риффинг напорист и зол. Когда дело доходит до соло, понимаешь, что математические эксперименты лид-изувера из Druknroll не пропали всуе, а всячески углубляются и усложняются, становясь всё более абстрактными и зверскими. Соло-партий на “Unbalanced” много. Они сложны, умны, вкусны и вообще замечательны. Я бы сказал, что слушать Druknroll можно только ради соло-гитары – есть что-то в самом подходе к написанию партий и в том, как сочетаются друг с другом риффы и соло от классических работ Annihilator, которые лично мне всегда казались безупречно слушабельными. Несмотря на страшное название, актуальный релиз саратовских умельцев показался мне намного более гармоничным и сбалансированным, чем их предыдущие творения. Практически бесследно сгинувшие в прошлом симфо-влияния, уступили место основательной философской глубине и взрослой размеренности, которые, однако, совсем не сделали альбом менее интригующим и неожиданным. Наоборот. На диске вдоволь самых разных (стилистических, вокальных, музыкальных) сюрпризов, но сама суть, идея, замысел читаются намного более ясно, рельефно и однозначно.

Vi avevamo parlato dei Druknroll lo scorso anno, in occasione dell’uscita dell’ep Bad Math, mini album di tre brani che seguiva un cospicua discografia composta da una manciata di full length ed altrettanti lavori minori sparsi in una dozzina d’anni.
Il progetto, nato come one man band del musicista russo che gli da il nome, licenzia tramite Metal Scrap Unbalanced, album che conferma le notevoli potenzialita di quella che ad oggi risulta una band a tutti gli effetti con Drunknroll ad occuparsi di chitarra, basso tastiere e batteria, il singer Horror, Knip alle prese con chitarra, batterie e diavolerie elettroniche e Denys Malyuga alla chitarra solista.
Il gruppo, dal sound particolare, ci investe con una serie di brani personali e vari, estremi e melodici, moderni e dalle sfumature industriali su tappeti di ritmiche thrash violentissime, alternate a melodie di estrazione melodic death.
Ne esce un album sicuramente originale e progressivo, composto da dieci brani, compresi i tre che formavano il precedente ep in cui thrash metal moderno di scuola Strapping Young Lad, Voivod, industrial (Ministry) e melodic death metal (Soilwork) si uniscono per travolgere l’ascoltatore con una cascata di note a formare brani fuori dai soliti schemi, con l’arma in piu chiamata Horror alla voce (perfetto in ogni passaggio e vario nella sua interpretazione cosi come il sound) ed un songwriting ispirato.
Non ci si riposa, il gruppo tiene l’ascoltatore in tensione passando da un genere all’altro o riuscendo ad amalgamare influenze ed ispirazioni in un solo sound per formare brani devastanti, potentissimi e pregni di cambi di tempo e varianti progressive.
Oltre al trio di canzoni presenti in Bad Math (Bad Math, On The Hook e The Heroes of the War), la title track, Philosophy Of Life e Mirror vi lasceranno senza fiato, originali ed estreme composizioni all’interno di un lavoro straordinario.
I Druknroll meriterebbero sicuramente piu attenzione, la loro proposta risulta personalissima, amalgamando generi ed influenze all’apparenza lontane ma perfettamente unite nel puzzle musicale di Unbalanced.

Οι Ρώσοι Druknroll ξαναχτυπούν με νέο υλικό εν ονόματι “Unbalanced”. Αισίως μιλάμε για τον πέμπτο full length δίσκο όπου έχουμε ένα κράμα τεχνικού thrash/death με πολλά progressive και μοντέρνα στοιχεία.
Ο δίσκος κινείται σε αρκετά καλά πλαίσια χωρίς όμως δυστυχώς να νιώσω την ανάγκη να τον ξαναβάλω. Λείπει αυτό το κάτι που υπάρχει πολλές φορές και σε κάνει να κολλήσεις.
Το ίδιο ισχύει και για το “It’s Not My Way” όπου υπάρχει συμμετοχή της Maria όπου μου θυμίζει έντονα την Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil). Καλούτσικο, αλλά εκεί μένουμε.
Με το progressive, τεχνικό, μοντέρνο στυλ (ονομάστε τα όπως θέλετε) υπάρχει μια μεγάλη παγίδα. Στην προσπάθεια ένα γκρουπ να ακουστεί έτσι χάνεται το ποιο σημαντικό. Η ψυχή.
Το αποτέλεσμα καταλήγει “παγερό” και αδιάφορο. Για όποιον ενδιαφέρεται θα πρότεινα ένα άκουσμα πρώτα στο YouTube και να κρίνει και ο ίδιος. Αν εξαιρέσεις κάποια σημεία που αξίζουν, το συνολικό αποτέλεσμα προσωπικά με αφήνει παγερά αδιάφορο.

O niente o troppo, a volte non vi sono vie di mezzo. Dopo aver ascoltato poco o niente proveniente dall’est Europa in breve tempo sotto le mie avide orecchie sono passati gli ucraini Penetrum ed i russi Druknroll, band di cui parleremo a proposito dell’uscita del quinto album “Unbalanced” targato Metal Scrap Records (label Ucraina…ca va sans dire…). Siccome ignoravo beatamente chi fossero questi signori dopo diversi ascolti posso dire che Andrey “Druknroll” e soci sono stati una gradevole scoperta. Come il loro grande paese d’origine e un coacervo di razze, usi e costumi differenti, cosi nello stile musicale del combo di Saratov si riversano influenze progressive, riffs death melodic oriented, intermezzi alternative metal e passaggi prettamente thrash. Il tutto accompagnato dalla buonissima prova del singer Horror che con sufficiente disinvoltura passa dalle timbriche aggressive (oserei quasi dire influenzate dal thrash della bay area) di “On the Hook”, al growl nel controcanto di “It’s not my way” fino alle clean vocals nel chorus dell’opener “Hundred”.Nonostante alcune derive ‘core presenti nel tessuto di tutto l’album, ho trovato che in quanto a freschezza, ricercatezza nelle soluzioni e qualita nel songwriting “Unbalanced” potrebbe riportare in primo piano alcune idee toccate dai conterranei Psilocybe Larvae con il loro masterpiece “The Labyrinth of Penumbra” (consigliatissimo, nel caso….). Se a volte la scena metal vi sembra un po’ stagnante i Druknroll potrebbero essere un piacevole refolo d’aria fresca.

El que nos ocupa es ya el quinto trabajo de estudio (sin contar singles y EPs) de esta particular banda rusa que responde al nombre de DRUKNROLL, cuyo estilo se hace muy dificil de encasillar dentro de una sola etiqueta, como podemos comprobar una vez mas en este album. Su titulo es “Unbalanced” y ha sido publicado, al igual que la mayoria de sus predecesores, por el sello ucraniano Metal Scrap Records, luciendo una acertada portada que encaja bastante bien con el contenido musical del album, un tanto desequilibrado para los puristas y con ese toque bizarro que tan bien saben explotar estos tipos. Por eso, si te gusta el Metal contemporaneo, sin limitaciones ni restricciones estilisticas, te recomiendo que prestes mucha atencion a este trabajo.
Como ya conocia los dos albumes anteriores de DRUKNROLL podia hacerme una idea del contenido sonoro que podia encerrarse detras de “Unbalanced”, con esa caracteristica mezcla de Progressive / Symphonic Metal, Modern Metal, Melodeath, Alternative… Pero aun asi el disco me ha sorprendido gratamente por la potencia y frescura de sus composiciones, tan bizarras y originales como siempre, pero nada previsibles en el fondo. Un punado de temas que son pura energia y dinamismo, combinando los ambientes sinfonicos con la contundencia moderna, sin olvidar algunas buenas dosis de melodias y estribillos con garra, pero siempre de con la particular forma de ser de estos creativos rusos. Y es que aunque tengan influencias como las de SOILWORK, CHILDREN OF BODOM, DARK TRANQUILLITY, FEAR FACTORY, AMORPHIS, MERCENARY, IN FLAMES, etc. su rollo sigue teniendo mucha personalidad.
Desde que los conoci soy fan suyo, y con este nuevo album han renovado mi confianza en ellos, y es que si te gusta el Metal actual y buscas algo diferente a lo que hacen los demas DRUKNROLL son una apuesta segura. De modo que solo me queda recomendar la escucha de este “Unbalanced”, a ser posible en su formato fisico original, que tiene muy buena pinta y ayuda a entender mejor el concepto que hay detras de los temas. Diez cortes variados, potentes y poco predecibles.

I have heard a couple of DRUKNROLL’s albums but I cannot say that I do remember them that well. I do know that I have liked what I have heard at that time but I cannot for the life of me remember what they sound like. And I guess much has to do with the fact that the band seem to change style as often as possible. This new album sound like a cross between Pain and Hypocrisy. It has elements of both thrash, death and goth. It is an amalgamation of styles that strangely enough work as a unit. This is actually a pretty cool album.

I have heard a number of DRUKNROLL albums by now and I have always liked what I heard but I cannot name song titles or album titles. And if I were pressured into telling you what they sound like I cannot tell you because I don’t really know. It feels like the band changes with the moods. This time they are a thrash metal band and a really good one. In a way they kinda reminds me of The Haunted. It is that same kinda thrash that they are peddling. And that is no bad comparison in any book. So again I sit here with a DRUKNROLL album that I like. Perhaps I will remember this one a bit better the next time they release a new album.

Nuevamente tengo el gusto de reseñar una banda que no deja de sorprenderme. Habiendo hecho la crítica de su anterior LP, “In the game”, Druknroll nos presenta un nuevo trabajo (hay un EP anterior) donde nuevamente despliegan un impresionante arsenal de influencias que los transforma en una banda difícil de precisar.
Y a diferencia de su placa previa, aquí la gama de referentes se amplió de manera manifiesta, pues está claro que al quinteto le encanta combinar y mezclar todo tipo de estilos de metal.
El resultado de este pastiche es a todas luces prometedor pero también es su talón de Aquiles, ya que la sensación constante de caos organizado y total que envuelve al disco puede llevar al oyente medio a preguntarse qué diablos está escuchando. De hecho, la misma banda se define (entre otras cosas) como una banda de metal moderno, lo cual puede llegar a ahuyentar al metalero clásico ortodoxo.
Yendo aún más adentro de “Unbalanced”, en general todos los temas poseen ritmos frenéticos y veloces, con esporádicos momentos melódicos y hasta épicos, sustentados por guitarras thrashers y vocales casi death, amalgamando de gran forma teclados progresivos que los acercan al djent y al math.
Como ya quedo más que claro, el álbum está repleto de variedad, y la maraña de sinfónico, melódico, progresivo, alternativo, thrash y death metal melódico melódico seguramente desequilibrarán tu mente. Recomendado!

Druknroll is a Russian band that bears the name of the bandleader, also called Druknroll. A bit of a weird name perhaps, but this will probably be a pseudonym, just like that of other band member Horror. The band already released about four albums with metal that is based on numerous influences. Until now I was not really charmed by the albums (partly due to the mediocre vocals of Horror at the time), but with this new album ‘Unbalanced’ they have made a good step forward, also in the vocal area. In my opinion, the amount of influences is still too large, making it sometimes a complex album but there is clearly a greater sense of structure. New to me are the more progressive sounds, such as the added piano in opener ‘Hundred’. This is also the least heavy song on the album, because after this the song the amount of decibels per song increases considerably. Everything stays within certain song structures and that makes songs like ‘On The Hook’ and ‘The Heroes Of The War’ very nice to listen to. If you are not afraid of a band that incorporates a lot of influences into their songs (and are immediately labeled as progressive by the record company), then you should definitely give Druknroll a chance, because as they produce more albums, they become better and better.

Od 2010 roku rosyjski Druknroll bardzo regularnie, co dwa lata raczy nas nowym albumem. Mamy rok 2018, więc jak nietrudno policzyć dostaliśmy właśnie ich piąty krążek. Mi dane było słyszeć tylko dwa ostatnie, plus oczywiście ten najnowszy, „Unbalanced”, wydany podobnie jak poprzednie w Metal Scrap Records. Szczerze mówiąc zachwycony perspektywą przesłuchania ich kolejnego dzieła jakoś specjalnie nie byłem, bo pamiętam, że tamte jakoś specjalnego wrażenia na mnie nie zrobiły. Tym razem było podobnie, choć przyznać muszę, że najnowszy ich album Przypadł mi do gustu najbardziej. Nadal jest to muzyka bardzo dziwna, nieokreślona do końca stylistycznie, łącząca w sobie wiele gatunków. Wygląda jednak na to, że panowie wreszcie trochę okrzepli, wiedzą czego chcą a ich kompozycję są jakby dojrzalsze. Cały czas bawią się w łączenie w nowoczesny sposób przeróżnych dźwięków charakterystycznych dla groove metalu, melo-death a nawet thrash czy heavy metalu. Kombinowania jest ciągle bardzo dużo, ale poszczególne kawałki są bardziej zwarte niż poprzednio. Sporo jest połamanych riffów, ale też znajdziemy tu trochę prostszego grania, w sam raz do potupania nóżką. Nie ma aż tak dużo tego chaosu, który łączył dobre riffy z jakimiś popelinami na poprzednich materiałach. Słucha się tego całkiem nieźle, człowiek jakoś specjalnie się przy tym nie męczy, choć też po przesłuchaniu całości niewiele z tego zostaje w głowie. Jedyne co byłem w stanie zapamiętać, to że od czasu do czasu pojawiały się ciekawe, przykuwające uwagę solówki. Jak ktoś lubi takie eksperymentalne granie, podszyte dodatkowo jeszcze elektroniką (a czasem i orkiestracjami), to może spróbować, choć jest spora szansa, że jednak nie „siądzie”.

I remember when Strapping Young Lad started releasing albums and fans didn’t know what to think… The dissonant rhythms, maniac ideas, and song structures were disconcerting to say the least. Fans needed time to embrace the whole idea and this is where Druknroll come in to some extent. For most of us, the name Druknroll is totally unknown, but the fact is, ‘‘Unbalanced’’ is their fifth full-length. The Russian scene may be too self-absorbed and one of the reasons may be because bands usually use their own native language to express themselves, which shouldn’t be seen as a bad thing at all. The problem lays when they export their
music. I remember in the previous issue being impressed by a Ukrainian band called Hesperion but the vocals were a drawback for me. Druknroll had the perception of this fact and on the previous record started using English lyrics that have led to some light exposition on the European metal scene. “Unbalanced” seems to be their most ambitious record, displaying a band that does not follow preconceived ideas in regards to music by blending an amalgam of different genres, thus giving a real progressive edge to their modem sonority. Try to imagine a blend between Strapping Young Lad, Nevermore, In Flames, and Soilwork-probably something hard to visualize I confess. Right from the opener ‘Hundred’ the listener is led towards an ongoing journey through fast rhythmic variations, different moods, and vocal styles. The title track and ‘Bad Math’ pick up right from that point, displaying strong guitar leads that rest on the more aggressive side of both thrash and death metal but having always in mind labyrinthine song structures that also incorporate elements from heavy metal and subtle keyboard melodies. Much of the aggression lays upon a strong and in-your-face modern production that provides enough punch (from drums and bass) but also clarity for the guitars to shine. The vocals are not forgotten either: in terms of variety, they range from guttural sections, to raspy, screams, clean parts, and even some female lines on ‘It’s Not My Way’. They are definitely on their way to something quite big, songs like ‘Philosophy of Life’, ‘Mirror’, the catchy ‘The Heroes of the War’, or the closer ‘Dark Matter’ follow on the same progressive note with constant tempo changes and rhythmic variations. Despite having that modern edge that some fans may not appreciate or less brilliant moments (‘It’s Not My Way’) on some occasions, they have certainly achieved their very own unique progressive I sound, which is more than most bands do.

Druknroll est un groupe de modern metal russe originaire de Saratov et actif depuis 2006. Druknroll a publié le single Металлическая ночь en 2006 et puis il a fallu attendre jusqu’à la sortie de son premier album Броуновское движение en 2010 (album qui reprenait le single). Ensuite pour son deuxième album На лезвии ножа (2012) Drukroll se lie au label Metal Scrap Records. Il s’ensuit une collaboration qui continue avec l’album Точка кипения (2014), l’Ep Петля мироздания (2015), l’album In The Game / В Игре sorti en 2016 et aujourd’hui on vous parle du tout dernier album Unbalanced (2018). Unbalanced a été anticipé en 2017 par l’EP Bad Math qui contient trois titres qui figurent tous sur l’album Unbalanced. Avec l’album précédent nommé In The Game / В Игре on pouvait constater l’envie de viser un public plus large grâce à un titre en russe et anglais et aussi à une tracklist avec les titres en russe et leur traduction en anglais. On constatait aussi que cette démarche anglophone n’était pas exploitée pleinement puisque en 2016 le groupe chantait en russe et les lyrics (présentes dans le livret étaient aussi en russe). On terminait notre chronique de l’album In The Game / В Игре avec ces mots : « Si Druknroll arrivait à faire plus d’effort sur la pochette et peut-être à se mettre à l’anglais, ceci lui permettrai de s’exporter au-delà de la Russie ». Et avec Unbalanced c’est chose faite. Druknroll chante en anglais et l’artwork a été réalisé par l’artiste russe Mosa Eye, un artiste connu dans l’underground principalement russe. Si on veut être succinct on peut affirmer que Druknroll avec Unbalanced a réalisé un album parfait. Le groupe est formé par Druknroll (Guitars, Bass, Keyboards, Drum programming), Horror (Vocals), Maria (Vocals), Alex Knip (Guitars (lead), Keyboards, Additional Production). A côté d’eux en tant que guests on trouve Denys Malyuga (Guitars (lead) on tracks 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 10) et Max Perepyolkin (Guitars (lead) on tracks 3, 6, 9). La force et l’originalité de Druknroll est celle de proposer des titres courts, rapides, incisifs et qui mélangent à la fois une myriade d’éléments metal. Le tout est savamment dosé et fluide et à l’arrivée on a un album éclectique et sublime. Alors oui, coté communication on vous dit que cet album est réservé aux amateurs de Children Of Bodom, Soilwork, Mercenary, Degradead, Dark Tranquillity, and In Flames. Mais ce n’est pas tout. Les influences vont plus loin encore. Il y a des échos de Machine Head (période Unto the Locust) par rapport au chant et à certaines harmonies de guitare ; on peut citer aussi System Of A Down (des deux premiers albums) pour ce côté patchwork et alternance de moment variés / rapides. Mais on peut penser aussi à des groupes comme Evanescence ou Saliva mais EN PLUS COSTAUD. La voix d’Horror est death metal et va parfois à chercher dans le grunt le plus rocailleux. On le voit dès l’ouverture de Hundred avec une strophe metal et un refrain fédérateur, léger, moderne avec un clavier qui s’installe et accentue le côté mélodique. Côté subitement cassé à la fin du refrain qui s’ouvre sur un solo endiablé et on repart sur la rythmique rapide d’ouverture. A 4 :28 est très intéressant la reprise du morceau qui se fait par une voix et des sons filtrés. Des solos en voici en voilà et c’est du très bon. Unbalanced a un côté épique souligné par les claviers. La voix passe du grave au plus grave encore et une grande attention est focalisée sur le refrain qui encore une fois rentre tout de suite en tête. Le drumming est effréné et la guitare rythmique monte et descends ses gammes de façon monstrueuse. Bad Math est un morceau death metal qui passe au groove metal en phase de refrain avec une touche de nappes de clavier. Il y a un break acoustique central qui casse le rythme et permet au solo d’exploser. Ce titre est vraiment direct et fédérateur et ce n’est pas un hasard s’il a été choisi pour l’EP de 2017 pour anticiper la sortie de l’album. It’s Not My Way est l’un de mes titres préféré. Intro acoustique, clavier en fond sonore et Maria qui chante en voix claire. Le tempo s’accélère et Horror entre en scène avec une voix qui efflore le « pig squeal ». C’est un titre fait d’ombre et de lumière, un équilibre parfait entre les deux voix et le riff qui se veut aéré et lourd à souhait. Le solo est excellent et rappelle les solos de Joe Satriani je pense au morceau Summer Song qui figure sur l’album The Extremist (1992). Je ne vais pas vous faire du track by track mais sachez que la suite est énorme. Philosophy Of Life est un coup de poing direct. Écoutez ce break à plein volume, il commence à 3 :02. C’est sublime ! Mirror présente deux lignes que je vous partage parce que je les trouve très réussies :

Druknroll avec Unbalanced réalise un album exceptionnel. Varié, éclectique, il réunit et fond plusieurs styles avec aisance et maîtrise. C’est un mix excellent de force, technique et talent. Les chansons restent bien en tête en on multiplie les écoutes avec un réel plaisir.

Programmatischer Titel – bewusst gewählt?
“Unbalanced”: Wie zutreffend! Bereits auf ihrem letzten Album waren die Herren von DRUKNROLL noch relativ sprunghaft unterwegs und konnten mit ihrem modernen Thrash vor allem deshalb nicht landen, weil die straighten Attacken immer wieder von progressiven Spielereien ausgebremst wurden, die nicht so recht ins Bild passen. Mit dem Auftakt des aktuellen Albums scheint zunächst Besserung in Sicht; ‘Hundred’ und auch der Titelsong offenbaren straighte brachiale Thrash-Kost, wie man sie von DRUKNROLL gar nicht erwartet hätte. Doch leider verfällt die Band dann wieder in alte, nicht allzu vorteilhafte Tugenden. Mir ist schleierhaft, was sich die Jungs beweisen wollen bzw. warum sie mit aller Macht versuchen, künstlerischen Anspruch zu platzieren, wo er eigentlich gar nicht angebracht ist. Das russische Quartett liebäugelt pausenlos mit dem Djent-Genre, mag aber auch symphonische Noten unterbringen und füllt die übrigen Stücke viel zu oft mit Keyboard-Backings, die den Sound mehr verwässern als ergänzen. Zwar gibt es im weiteren Verlauf einige brauchbare Melodien, und womöglich klingt mein Genörgel auch schlimmer, als es tatsächlich ist. Aber das spontane Momentum, mit dem sich die räudigeren Parts unterbrechen ließen, ist auch auf “Unbalanced” nur sehr begrenzt fühlbar, weshalb gerade der mittlere Teil des Albums viel zu verkrampft klingt. Dennoch: Im Vergleich zu “In The Game” hat die Truppe einen kleinen Schritt vorwärts gemacht und präsentiert trotz der genannten Kritikpunkte eine Platte, die etwas runder ist als ihr Vorgänger. Dennoch bin ich absolut sicher, dass sich DRUKNROLL einen Gefallen täte, würden die Herren Musiker in Zukunft einfach mal mehr aus dem Bauch heraus agieren und die Prog-Metal-Einschübe auf ein bestimmtes Maß reduzieren. Sobald die Russen nämlich einen Gewaltausbruch initiieren, ist das ganze mehr als brauchbar – und schreit in diesem Falle sogar nach mehr. Schauen wir also, wohin die Reise künftig gehen wird. “Unbalanced” ist sicherlich kein schlechtes Album, doch wenn der Name Programm ist, ist bei einem solchen Titel doch noch einiges im Ungleichgewicht – im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes!

Jak już niejednokrotnie pisałem, nie tylko w głównym trzonie ukazują się ciekawe wydawnictwa. Kapele mniej znane również wypuszczają krążki warte uwagi i za jedną z takich grup bez wątpienia można uznać pochodzący z Rosji DRUKNROLL.
W połowie marca ukazał się ich najnowszy (już piąty) album i choć nie mam bladego pojęcia co panowie stworzyli do dej pory, to ich premierowy materiał wywarł na mnie niemałe wrażenie. „Unbalanced” to zestaw dziesięciu wysokoenergetycznych pocisków, których stylizacja zahacza o rejony death/thrash/modern/groove metalu czy też metalcore. W skrócie można powiedzieć, że Rosjanie upodobali sobie mocniejsze brzmienia o nowoczesnym usposobieniu, a efekt ich pracy jest dość imponujący. Całość posiada konkretne, selektywne i do tego treściwe brzmienie – w tej kwestii nie mam uwag. Mniej zachęcająco prezentuje się natomiast okładka i cała oprawa graficzna. Tutaj nie ma na czym zawiesić oka, frontowy obraz po prostu szpeci, a całą resztę charakteryzuje minimalizm. Za to w sferze stricte muzycznej sprawa wygląda zupełnie inaczej. Panowie – co słychać od pierwszych dźwięków – znają się na rzeczy i to nie tylko jeżeli chodzi o zaawansowanie instrumentalne. Również same pomysły robią bardzo przyzwoite wrażenie. Utwory są zarazem zróżnicowane jak i żywiołowe. Od czasu do czasu można poczuć ducha m.in. takich grup jak: Strapping Young Lad, Biomechanical, Testament (nowszy), Fear Factory, Meshuggah czy też Pantera. Nie ulega jednak wątpliwości, że Rosjanie dodają też wiele od siebie, stąd ich muzyka potrafi przyciągnąć i zaciekawić. Do tego ich kompozycje nie są wyzute z melodii. W tej materii duże znaczenie odgrywają czyste wokale (najczęściej występujące przy okazji refrenów). Ich forma budzi silne skojarzenia wobec osoby Petera Tägtgrena, a szczególnie to robi on w PAIN – silnie daje się to poczuć już przy okazji otwierającego „Hundred” czy też kompozycji tytułowej. Mimo wszystko na „Unbalaced” dominują wszelkiego typu growle. Zdarzają się też niespodzianki – np. przy okazji „It’s Not My Way” można usłyszeć żeński głos. Jak wokalnie tak i muzycznie Rosjanie są dalecy od ograniczania się do niezbędnego minimum; maszyna pracuje na pełnych obrotach (atutem wydawnictwa na pewno jest praca gitar). Oprócz wielowątkowości instrumentalnej (także elektronicznej aktywności), aranżacyjnie i rytmicznie nie ma mowy o marazmie, a pomysłów z pewnością nie brakuje. Także pod względem nastrojowej DRUKNROLL nie są jednobiegunowi – pomimo przeważającej ilości metalowej drapieżności z powodzeniem stosują atmosferyczne wtrącenia. Tutaj poszczególne motywy zmieniają się niczym pogoda w górach, ale mimo wszystko nie ma się wrażenia, że zespół przedobrzył. Jest w tym poczucie dobrego smaku oraz racjonalne podejście do tematu.
Dlatego, jeżeli lubicie nowoczesne oblicze energetycznego metalu w drapieżno – technicznym wydaniu, prawdopodobnie spodoba wam się nowa propozycja rosyjskiej grupy DRUKNROLL. „Unbalanced” muzycznie jest wydawnictwem udanym, ciekawym i na pewno wartym uwagi – sprawdźcie sami!

Tíz évnyi cikkírással a hátam mögött egyre gyakrabban futok bele olyan zenekarokba, melyek korábbi lemezéről, vagy lemezeiről is én emlékeztem meg anno. Az orosz Druknroll esetében az Unbalanced a harmadik album, amiről én írom az ismertetőt. Ráadásul róluk csupán az én két előző cikkem képezi az összes tartalmat oldalunkon. Se egy hír, se egy koncertbeszámoló, se egy interjú velük/róluk…Ezek alapján akár Druknroll szakértőnek is mondhatnám magam! :DA ruszkik 2010-ben jelentették meg bemutatkozó nagylemezüket.Azóta rendre kétévente érkeznek a folytatások.A 2014-es Boiling Point, eredeti címén Точка кипения volt az első találkozásom velük. Vagyis a 3. stúdióalbum. És az anyanyelv használata ellenére, vagy éppen azért jóba is lettem rögtön a srácok muzsikájával. A két esztendővel később megjelent In the Game már mérsékeltebben, de még mindig tetszett. És el is értünk az idei, aktuális koronghoz. Az Unbalanced kapcsán az a legnagyobb és szinte egyetlen változás, hogy a csapat átváltott a rock/metal zenék alapértelmezett nyelvére, az angolra. A két, általam ismert korábbi lemezen csupán az utolsó nótákat adták elő angolul, de azok kíváncsivá tettek, hogy milyen lenne, ha egy teljes nagylemezen keresztül a világnyelven szólalnának meg. Most már ezt is tudom! A válasz: ha a zene nagyjából ugyanolyan, mint korábban volt, akkor kb. tök mindegy, hogy oroszul, vagy épp angolul hadovál a vokalista. Márpedig zeneileg továbbra is a Soilwork, Scar Symmetry nevével fémjelezhető modern, MDM alapokon nyugvó fémzene hallható a Druknroll 5. nagylemezén.A nyitóHundred szerintem akkor is ugyanilyen fogós lenne, ha oroszul nyomná a Horror művésznevű énekes. Bár tény, hogy komfortosabb az angol nyelv hangzása. Kivéve gondolom az orosz anyanyelvű hallgatók számára… Viszont a “nem orosz anyanyelvűek” esetében pont hogy eddig némi unikális ízt adott a produkcióhoz a ruszki szövegelés. Legalábbis engem nem zavart, sőt, viszont azt is el tudom képzelni, hogy másokat igen. És az angol nyelvre váltás a banda (és talán főleg a kiadó) részéről egyértelműen a nemzetközi piac felé való nyitást jelzi. Arra egyébként látok reális esélyt, hogy hazájukon kívül is közepesen ismertek, népszerűek legyenek, mert az Unbalanced is hozza a tőlük megszokott minőséget. Fogósak a friss dalok, továbbra is több stílusból építkeznek, hisz akadnak szimfós, progos témák is, a gitárszólók minőségét és mennyiségét újfent érdemes kiemelni, stb. Még a dobgép sem túl zavaró, hisz a szintetizátor szintén gyakran hoz ipari zajokat, effekteket. A maga módján még változatos is az összkép. Az It’s Not My Way egy fél lírai, akusztikus gitárt is felvonultató tétel, női énekkel megtámogatva, de a keménységet sem nélkülözve. A szimfonikus szintetizátor futamok és a szépen felépített, hosszú, dallamos gitárszóló a lemez egyik csúcspontjává teszik az én olvasatomban. A dalokon belüli tempó-és hangulatváltásokat is ügyesen alkalmazzák a srácok! Halld pl. a Philosophy of Life című szerzeményt, amiben még egy patent basszuskiállás is hallható. A gitárszólók magas minőségének és nagy számának az is magyarázata lehet, hogy a banda tagjának számító Alex Knip mellett még két vendéggitáros is megereszt jó pár virgát. Nevezetesen Denys Malyuga és Max Perepyolkin. Ami miatt nem tudok maximálisan lelkesedni a lemezért, az maga a stílus. Valószínűleg nem csak én telítődtem túl az évek alatt a váltott vokállal. Kezd nagyon unalmassá válni az extrémen elővezetett verze, majd a dallamos/tiszta énekkel előadott refrén. Bár a Druknroll vokalistája sem énekeszseni, de elég jól megy neki a szó eredeti értelmében vett éneklés ahhoz, hogy teljesen mellőzze az acsarkodást! A Mirror-ban is mekkora már a refrén! Egyszerűen minőségibb a csávó éneke, mint a hörgése, morgása, üvöltése. Vagy csak ahogy öregszem úgy tolerálom egyre kevésbé az extrém vokált? Lehet…Ergo, korrekt lemez lett az Unbalanced, per pillanat úgy érzem, hogy valahol félúton van a Boiling Point és az In the Game között. Az előbbinél kicsit kevésbé tetszik, az utóbbinál pedig picit jobban. Így a pontszámot is a kettő közé lövöm be.

«Как вы яхту назовёте – так она и поплывёт» – пел в своё время легендарный капитан Врунгель. Соответственно, и название для метал-команды не менее важно. Такие наименования, как Cannibal Corpse, Vomitory, Suffocation, Dying Fetus однозначно позволяют отнести команду к дэт-металу, a Carpathian Forest и Ragnarok-к блэку. С другой стороны, всё не так однозначно – вот к какой категории, не зная о коллективе, отнести, например, Deicide или Slayer, исходя чисто из названия? По идее, тот же блэк и брутал-дэт, хотя на самом деле играют ребята satanic death и классический трэш. То же самое ждёт и решивших ознакомиться с творчеством банды Druknroll, выпустивших нонче уже пятый альбом. Хоть в названии и содержится намёк на фолк и пьяный угар, поспешим отчасти разочаровать – угар будет (и, возможно, пьяный), но вот замес будет из ядрёного модерн-метала, трэша, альтернативы, грува и даже чуток припанкованного дэта (да, именно так!). Ибо работают ребята на совесть и готовы проперчить любого чешского кабанчика под чешское же пиво. Ну а что до названий… Как говорится, хоть горшком назови, только в печку не ставь. Проще говоря, ярлык можно навесить любой и играть хоть присимфованный трэш с элементами a capella. Вот только ценить будут твой талант, а не гирлянду из стилей.

DRUKNROLL powstał w 2006 w Saratowie, milionowym mieście położonym w centralnej Rosji, nad rzeką Wołgą. Na początku Rosjanie grali melodyjny heavy-metal/hard-rock, potem przestawili się na gwałtowne dźwięki. Przed najnowszym „Unbalanced” wypuścili w świat cztery pełno czasowe albumy, dwie EP i jednego singla.
Najnowszy krążek zawiera przede wszystkim muzykę agresywną, motoryczną i jednocześnie melodyjną. Tylko utwór „It’s Not My Way” jest bardziej nastrojowy, a „The Heroes of the War” można zaliczyć do ciężkich klimatów. Najwięcej do muzy wnoszą gitarzyści, na ich grze stoi ta płyta. Potrafią posługiwać się bardzo technicznie swoimi instrumentami. Każdy utwór zawiera co najmniej jedną świetną solówkę, a często jest ich więcej. Słychać w sposobie szarpania strun wiosłowych heavy-metalowe korzenie zespołu. Ale reszta muzyków też prezentuje wysoki poziom. Świetne są liczne krótkie wstawki basu solo. Rosjanie wykorzystują obficie klawisze, ale nie przesadzają z tym. Parapetu jest akurat tyle, ile potrzeba – ani za dużo, ani za mało. Wokale są urozmaicone: męski czysty, męski charczący oraz czysty kobiecy. W niektóre tracki wpleciono mówiące jakby przez radio głosy męskie i żeńskie. Metalową galopadę okraszają klimatyczne wstawki, zwolnienia, dając słuchaczowi chwile oddechu.
Muzyka na „Unbalanced” jest poukładana – zespół wie co chce tworzyć i realizuje to. Produkcja jest czysta, wyrazista. DRUKNROLL przynależy do brutalnej ligi, ale jego przekazie nie ma negatywizmu, ciemności. Ich muza jest raczej jasna – przynajmniej ja tak ją odbieram, pomimo że płytę kończy odgłos potężnej eksplozji.
Rosjanie z Saratowa prezentują wysoki poziom, spokojnie mogą robić karierę na Zachodzie.

Metal Scrap Records, 2018 Быстро бежит время на самом деле. Вот совсем, казалось бы, недавно саратовская группа DRUKNROLL делала первые шаги на музыкальной сцене. А сейчас они представили публике уже пятый свой альбом. Предшествовал альбому прошлогодний цифровой ЕР и все интересующиеся могли послушать как будет звучать группа на своем пятом альбоме. Уже давно стиль DRUKNROLL принято относить к модерн металу, так как подход музыкантов несомненно современный, а музыка раздающаяся из колонок ни к какому ортодоксальному стилю не принадлежит. И для того чтобы не писать symphonic progressive melodic death / thrash metal with industrial influences была придумана формулировка modern metal, хотя настоящий модерн метал в исполнении тех же IN FLAMES это нечто иное. Короче, если в приличной компании вы заявите, что саратовцы наяривают модерн метал, бить вас скорее всего не будут. Итак, 10 треков на диске и все очень достойные, и все звучат. Есть те, которые мне входят лучше (The Heroes of the War, например), но отстойных нет. Очень сложно описывать музыку россиян, ее нужно слушать. Она спокойно подходит как для фонового прослушивания, так и для вдумчивого, когда ничто не отвлекает. Лирика на английском языке. Каким-то сногсшибательным оформлением своих альбомов группа никогда не славилась. Вот и сейчас имеем странную обложку и четырехстраничный буклет. Все самое главное заключается в музыке.

These Russians’ fifth release starts thrashy and speedy and for about a minute exudes potential but the clean vocals, piano et al bring it back to earth. The solo and riffing raise it again. In other words Hundred is all over the place. The title track introduces keyboards even earlier than one minute in, the song can even be a Kamelot one for about 30 seconds but travels into metalcore realms later. Bad Math is about numbers and math?! As expected it does offer a pinch of variety so perhaps it is about calculus and geometry at the same time. It’s Not My Way is a 2018 version of power ballad. Philosophy Of Life features a mix of progressive and hardcore-ish sounds aided by some catchiness and proficient solos courtesy of Denys Malyuga. Malyuga does the lead work on six songs and shares the spotlight with Max Perepyolkin. On The Hook is as aggressive as the songs before it but suffers from the clean vocals dread. Eternal Confrontation suffers from the keyboards dread instead. Mirror and The Heroes Of The War keep the varied mantra going with pianos and more. Dark Matter starts very promisingly and is mostly enjoyable. Unbalanced is indeed unbalanced.

„Druknroll miotają się pomiędzy czymś na podobieństwo death metalu, a dość konwencjonalnym, alternatywnym rockiem, chętnie sięgają do mrocznych, gotyckich patentów, wykorzystują syntezatory i nowoczesne, elektroniczne, ambientowe brzmienia, nawiązują do rodzimego folkloru w chóralnych partiach woklanych, a groźny ryk konfrontują czasem z delikatnym, kobiecym głosem, ale niewiele z tego wynika, a jeszcze mniej pozostaje w pamięci, bo takich, a nawet lepszych zespołów, są na świecie tysiące“ – tak pisałem przed dwoma laty o„In The Game“, poprzedniej płycie Rosjan. Minęły dw lata i na „Unbalanced“ niewiele się zmieniło. W sumie mógłbym skopiować tamtą poprzednią recenzję w całości, zmieniając tylko tytuły utworów – jeśli ktoś lubi nowoczesny metal, stylistycznie bliżej nieokreślony i do tego niesamowicie monotonny, mimo rozbudowanych aranżacji, to „Unbalanced“ jest dla niego. Reszcie odradzam, naprawdę szkoda czasu na tę płytę.

Druknroll is one of the hardest working Russian bands I know, them and Grenouer, but contrary to Grenouer’s trajectory from Thrash Death Metal to a way softer kind of Rock / Metal, Druknroll have seriously impressed me with their switch to heavier and heavier music along the years to a point where now on this fifth album of theirs the band plays a mix of Industrial Metal (obviously) with Progressive Thrash and Death Metal and even Symphonic influences here and there. The 10 tracks clocking almost 50 minutes of playing time offer plenty to discover and enjoy, the compositions are so complex and diverse one from another that it’s no wonder the band worked for 2 years for this new material. The part where the band fails is the production of this album, it gives me the constant feeling I’m listening to two or more different recordings at the same time; probably the band wanted to give a certain SF atmosphere to the whole, and that is understandable as the music certainly leads to such a medium, a journey through space and cosmos, but to be honest I don’t like the final mix. The compositions on the other hand are top notch Prog Thrash Death a la ’90’s mixed with classy Industrial Metal, very well structured and expressive; there are plenty of interesting and surprising moments throughout the album so I suggest if you give it a chance to spin it at least once in full otherwise you’ll miss out on a few hooks hidden here and there that might make the difference between a material you like or one you dislike. Also this fact that Druknroll’s music become heavier and heavier over time is quite impressive, there are very few bands that actually do or ever did this, so here’s another reason to support them.

Przyznac trzeba, ze zespot regularnie wydaje swoje materiaty konsekwentnie rozwijajqc swoj styl. Tak wi^c i tym razem mamy kilka nowinek- jak dla mnie zaskakuj^cych. Po pierwsze, brutalizacji ulegla sama muzyka. Mniej jest tu juz typowo nastrojowych, zahaczaj^cych o gotyckie plumkanie motywow. Wi^cej za to mamy ostrych, acz strasznie technicznych fragmentow, takze aranzacje sq zakr^cone jak baranie rogi. Zupelnie jakby wszyscy na raz chcieli zagrac solowk? przescigajqc sie w pomyslach na zrobienie sobie miejsca. Powinno wi§c brzmiec to chaotycznie, a jednak ma r^ce i nogi. Podczas sluchania do gtowy cz^sto przychodzi mi projekt IHSAHN, ktory do latwych lektur z pewnosciq nie nalezy. No, ale czy komus to wchodzi czy nie to jakby inna bajka. Tymczasem na „Unbalanced” nie bagatelnq role odgrywaj^ tez klawisze o „kosmicznych” brzmieniach. Nie brak tez czystych wokali we fragmentach, czy akustykow „z przytupem” pod srodkowy THERION („It’s Not My Way”). Pomimo rozrzutu stylistycznego jaki tutaj mamy, trzyma si? to kupy i daje rad§. Drugq zmianq szczegolnq w DRUKNROLL jest zmiana j^zykowa. Nareszcie zespot porzucit j?zyk rosyjski w lirykach na rzecz przasnej angielszczyzny. I to si? chwali.
